Students of the University of The Gambia (UTG) are set to stage a fresh strike on Monday, with key demands including the rescheduling of exams to January 6, 2025.

The university has been mired in protests and unrest following the abrupt dismissal of two lecturers accused of “spreading false claims” against the institution.

Last week, a group of students gathered at the university’s Kanifing campus to demand the immediate reinstatement of the dismissed lecturers and presented a list of demands.

This time, the Students’ Union, in collaboration with the Taskforce for its Sub-Association Leaders, announced plans for a peaceful protest.

“We are protesting against the UTG management to demand the immediate resumption of all academic and administrative activities at the University of The Gambia, the postponement of exams to January 6, 2025, compensation for the lost lecture periods caused by the dismissal of the two lecturers, among 12 other demands,” a statement from the protesters read.
