Madi Ceesay

A veteran journalist has blamed the regime of former president Yahya Jammeh over the death of his son.

Madi Ceesay made the allegation while testfying before the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission on Wednesday July 17.

” I blame the regime of Yahya Jammeh for my son’s death,” he told the Commission.

Mr Ceesay is now the National Assembly Member for Serekunda West.

The late son of the veteran journalist died shortly after his release from Mile Two Central Prison.

The deceased was among the pro electoral reform protesters in 2016.

And dozen of them – all supporters of the United Democratic Party – were arrested by the regime of former president Yahya Jammeh for holding a peaceful protest calling for a reform of the electoral laws.

The arrested protesters were said to have been subjected to torture at the National Intelligence Agency in which an activist Solo Sandeng lost his life.

Meanwhile, in his testimony, Mr Ceesay said when he visited his son and others at the notorious Mile Two Prison, his son told him that he was subjected to serious torture.

He said his late son showed him his broken teeth (that happened as a result of his alleged torture), adding that the decease was an asthma patient.
