Jacob Mendy has been selected by The Gambia for the upcoming international break as they start their World Cup Qualifying campaign.

The defender has been called up before by the Scorpions but is yet to make his debut for the national team.

During the international break, they will start their campaign against Burundi at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium before facing Ivory Coast.

Mendy made his debut for Wrexham from the bench on the opening game of last season in a 2-1 victory against Eastleigh.

Ahead of the upcoming set of fixtures, the 26-year-old explained he was delighted to be called up.

He said: “It has always been my dream to represent my country and I want to contribute with good performances if I get the chance to play.”
