Young people in The Gambia are planning a nationwide protest on Friday, following the arrest of dozens of demonstrators who took part in a peaceful rally to demand transparency over assets linked to former President Yahya Jammeh.

At least 16 people, including several outspoken youth leaders, were detained on Wednesday at various police stations across the Greater Banjul Area. Police say they have been charged with unlawful assembly.

The demonstrators had gathered to urge the government to publish a full list of individuals who allegedly bought properties seized from the former president.
Their arrests have sparked widespread criticism online, with many calling the detentions unjust and mobilising for a larger show of solidarity.
