Ten vegetable sellers have been quarantined in Farafenni after returning from a business trip in Senegal, police say. 

The women, all residents of Farafenni,  were reported to have been intercepted by border officials on Tuesday after being spotted using illegal border crossing points. 

A team of officers from police, immigration and customs stationed at Kerr Ali border post conducted the raid. 

The market traders are said to have been quarantined at the Ballanghar Motel in Farafenni, where they are observed by health officials.

Most of the coronavirus cases in The Gambia have involved travellers from Senegal. 

Yesterday Gambia extends the state of public emergency for another three weeks to stop the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

Senegal has recorded 2,544 coronavirus cases, including 27 deaths.
