The number of coronavirus deaths in the Gambia has risen by 13 to 64, the Ministry of Health said. 

The samples from all but five of the 13 new deaths were collected after posthumously. The median age of the victims is 65 years.

And 249 new cases were registered over the weekend taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 1,872. 

Meanwhile 97 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospital bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 401. 

One person was newly taken into quarantine; fifty-two (52) new discharges were made.

The Gambia currently has 332 people in quarantine, 1,408 active cases and 183 probable cases.

In a related news health authorities say said 20 laboratory staff and volunteers have been trained on COVID-19 sample collection.
