The Gambia Police Force has arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the death of a 15-year-old boy following an alleged stabbing incident in Bansang, Central River Region.

The incident reportedly occurred at Bansang Angal Futa on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, following an altercation between the two minors.

According to police, preliminary investigations indicate that the 15-year-old was allegedly stabbed with a pair of scissors during the confrontation. He was taken to Bansang Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police teams from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Criminal Investigation Department and Child Protection Unit visited and secured the scene. A pair of scissors suspected to have been used in the incident was also recovered.

The suspect, whose age was initially reported as 12, has since been confirmed to be 14 and remains in police custody as investigations continue.

As both the suspect and deceased are minors, police have withheld their identities and urged the public not to circulate information that could identify them or prejudice the ongoing investigation.
