Thirty-eight Gambian women who were recently repatriated from Lebanon have received D27,000 each. 

The women were paid by Sweden-based charity Action for Humanity as part of a repatriation package of support. 

Last week the charity facilitated repatriation of all 38 women and two children from the Lebanese capital Beirut after being in limbo due to the complicated Lebanese immigration system and the alleged inaction of The Gambia government. 

The organisation’s executive director Lovette Jallow, a Gambian-born Sweden-based activist, said on her Facebook page that she has made good on her pledge to give one million dalasi to Gambian women she helped return to the country.

“The adult women each have been paid D27,000 while two babies each received D14,500,” Ms Jallow said.
