Police say they have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl in his care. 

The accused, identified as Pa, was closed to the girl’s family and had recently been given the girl to adopt. 

The girl’s mother said her daughter confided in her days after the alleged rape  in Lamin village.

“It was when I realised that she was not feeling well that I decided to interrogate her and during the process, she confessed to me that Pa had raped her. 

“My daughter told me that the man always called her and showed her porn videos on his phone. She said one day when she was sleeping alone in the room, he sneaked into the room, undressed her and started penetrating her,” the mother told The Standard. 

“My daughter said the man told her not to report the matter to anyone. She said he threatened to put her in trouble if she reported it to anyone. So it was when she visited me that she had the courage to explain what happened.”

She said the accused has been attempting to sexually assault her daughter several times without success.

She claimed that her daughter was taken to Lamin for adoption by her stepmother.
