A 59-year-old man has been remanded in Mile Two Prison for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter.

The suspect, who was identified by his initials M.J, was arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. 

He was charged with one count of rape.

According to the police prosecutor, the father of nine had unlawful carnal knowledge of his biological daughter aged 16 in May this year in Manduar, Kombo Central.

The prosecutor pleaded with the court to remand the defendant to stop him interfering with the investigation.

He added that the file has been sent to Attorney General’s Chambers in Banjul to advice on the case. 

The trial magistrate Anna Mendy granted the prosecution’s application and remanded the accused at the Mile Two Central Prison pending the completion of the investigation.

The case was adjourned to 15th September.
