An 86-year-old Gambian man with no travel history tests positive for coronavirus as the country sees a surge in cases.

The Gambia’s total coronavirus cases is 64.

“He only came in contact with the response team (through the 1025 Hotline) after the onset of symptoms similar to those of COVID-19,” the Ministry of Health said in a press conference on Thursday.

The Health ministry said 140 test results came back negative and that two people have recovered from the disease bringing down the active cases to 27.

Two people suspected of having the virus or coming into contact with an infected person were taken into quarantine.

Almost all the latest registered cases of coronavirus in the country are imported mainly by people who have travelled into the country with SN Brussels flights.
