Hundreds of Senegalese football fans took to the streets of Serekunda on Sunday evening to celebrate their team’s triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt.

Senegal’s Lions of Teranga knocked out Tunisia’s Eagles of Carthage in the AFCON semifinal after extra time. The final result was 1-0.

The Sengalese team are now in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, their second time in the tournament history.

The Lions of Teranga last reached the Africa cup of Nations in 2002, when current coach Aliou Cisse captained a team beaten on penalties by Cameroon in Mali.

Meanwhile, Sunday’s encountered between Senegal and Tunisia was keenly followed by many Senegalese in the Gambia, as many closed their businesses early in preparation for the game.

The victorious fans took to the streets after the game – some in cars and motorbikes – in jubilation of their team’s success.
