Alieu Jeng, a former member of paramilitary death squad, the Jungulers, testifying before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.

A former member of Jammeh’s death squad, the Junguler, has accepted lying to the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.

Alieu Jeng, a Warrant Officer Class 1 of The Gambia Armed Forces, told the Truth Commission on Thursday that he had lied in his testimony.

“Yes I lied, I don’t choose to lie … Yes I agree,” he accepted.

He said he was told by Tumbul Tamba not to shot when the Jungulers assassinated Deyda Hydara, a veteran journalist and critic of former president Yahya Jammeh, in December 2004.

But Malick Jatta told the Commission that all of them – himself, Alieu Jeng, Tumbul Tamba and Sanna Manjang -shot at Deyda Hydara.

Mr Alieu Jeng has been implicated by his colleague of killing Deyda Hydara and others.

But he had earlier denied the allegations.

His testimony continues.
