President Adama Barrow has sacked his Interior Minister, Ebrima Mballow on Thursday.
Mr Mballow was sacked from his post in a shock cabinet reshuffle. He was sacked alongside the Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service Ebrima Camara.
A statement from the presidency said the two government officials have been redeployed to the Foreign Service.
Yankuba Sonko, a former Inspector General of Police has been appointed to replace Mr Mballow.
Mballow, who was appointed in 2018, has recently become a controversial figure after making incendiary statements including threatening to spray hot canon water on protesters.
He told The Fatu Network that his sacking was “the will of God”.
“I thank the President for giving me the opportunity to serve my country at the highest level,” he said.
