The Trust Bank Gambia Ltd has reassured its customers after a damning corruption indictment by the Janneh Commission Report which was published on Friday.

The bank is one of several companies named by the Commission to have “aided and abetted” former president Yahya Jammeh in stealing over a billion dalasi from public funds.

In a press statement on Saturday the bank says that it is still operational and will work to clear its name. Below we reproduce the full Trust Bank press release:

“Since the publication of the governments position on the findings of the Janneh Commission, on Friday the 13th September 2019, Trust Bank continue to receive flurry of questions and reactions from our frenzied customers about the fate of the bank and how the matter will unfold for them.

“We do acknowledge that the Janneh Commission Report is a complex and unprecedented matter that demands some explanation not only for our esteemed customers but the general public as well by virtue of our size and market share.

“The good news is we are allowed to conduct business as usual and that the report does not restrict our normal operations nor will it affect our customers in any form or shape.

“It is important to point out that the indictment of Trust Bank in the Janneh Commission report is more or less an allegation which we intend to challenge vigorously before a competent court. It would therefore be unprofessional to comment on the matter at this time prior to a decision being made.

“In that light, the Bank will continue to engage with the right authorities through our legal team in order to extricate our good name out of this.
