Yusupha Mbye, a survivor of the April 10/11 students’ shooting has slammed President Adama Barrow for neglecting the victims of former president Yahya Jammeh.

Mr. Mbye, 36, made the remarks at the end of his testimony before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission on Monday after its resumed its public hearings on the April 10/11 violent students’ protests.

He said during the political impasse in 2016 that President Barrow met with Gambians in Senegal, adding he spoke with President Barrow who promised the victims of April 10 and 11 violent student crackdown with help including overseas treatment.

Mr. Mbye said the press secretary Amie Bojang Sisoho took their numbers but that since then they have not heard from President Barrow.

He said upon returning to the Gambia after the impasse that they went to State House to meet President Barrow.

“President Barrow told me that ‘I also lost my son in the struggle’. I met him in Senegal and he promised us…we the victims of the April 10/11 that when we return to the Gambia we will go for overseas treatment,” he said.

He said they will not commemorate April 10/11 anymore until the government accepts their demands.

Meanwhile, the former student also lambasted the Ministry of Justice for not responding to their petition.

He said: “the Ministry of Justice has troubled us…we the April 10/11 victims shouldn’t come to the TRRC.”

Mr. Mbye added that they have petitioned the Gambia government which they submitted to the office of the Justice minister, “but still yet we haven’t receive any reply from them.”
