President Barrow’s Youth Adviser, Henry Gomez, threatened to destroy a local journalist camera if he takes photo of him during Monday’s anti-Barrow rally organised by the political group Three Years Jotna.
Mr Gomez, who is also leader of Gambia Party for Democracy and Progress (GPDP), was irate when he spotted the journalist pointing his camera at him.
“Hey, take off your camera on me. If you take a picture of me I will destroy your camera,” he warned the photojournalist.
This incident happened at Denton Bridge when the presidential adviser was spotted at the rally stopping students and protesters who were coming along from Banjul.
The journalists asked him whether he was sent by President Barrow to observe the protest.
Mr Gomez replied: “ No, not at all. I was just going to work. I’m from a meeting and saw the crowd. I haven’t even spoken to President Barrow.”
When journalists touched on the issue of promises made by the President during his 2016 campaign, Mr Gomez declined to comment and said to the reporters ‘thank you very much’ he then left for the other side of the road where his vehicle was parked.
“Let us not burn this country to ashes. President Barrow has given a permit for demonstration, let them be calm and do what they have to do then disperse. Not this ‘taras-taras (sic) and looking for a fight,” the presidential adviser said.
