Demba Sowe, National Assembly member for Niamina West, died suddenly on Friday while on an official trip to Morocco. He was 40.

The parliamentarian, was a member of the opposition Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC).

The GDC party released a statement announcing Mr Sowe’s death.

“Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Illaihi Rajihooun. The GDC Central Executive Committee regret to announce the death of Hon. Demba Sowe, GDC NAM.

“Hon. Sowe died in Morocco this evening, 24th January 2020.

“This sad news is extended to all GDC members and Gambians at home and abroad.”
