Two privately-owned radio stations – Home Digital and King FM – have been allowed by The Gambia government to reopen after closing them a month ago.

The decision was announced after a close door meeting between the Gambia Press Union (GPU) and officials of the Gambia government.

And the charges levelled on four journalists including the proprietors of Home Digital Gibba Jallow and Pa Modou Bojang of King FM have also been dropped.

This development comes over a month since the government shutdown the radio stations following a violent protest by the anti-government protest group 3 Years Jotna. The stations were accused by the government of “inciting violence” which the proprietors have strongly denied.

Justice Minister Abubacarr Tambadou told journalists after the meeting with the GPU that “the State (has) dropped (all the) charges against four journalists; home Digital FM and King FM will resume operation today.”
