There was pandemonium at Latrikunda market this morning as police arrest tailors at several tailoring shops for violating the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

Shops dealing in non-essential goods are required to only operate business hours from 2pm to 5pm as part of the measures put in place to contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic. 

But tailors have now started to challenge the lockdown measures complaining that it is affecting their businesses in the run up to Eid or Koriteh as they say in the local language, one of the busiest times of the year. 

A group of tailors could be heard saying out of frustration and anger: “we are tired with this tough measures because we cannot do our jobs. People bring their clothes for sowing and the police are now arresting us for working.”

The National Assembly is sitting today to discuss possible extension of the 45 days nationwide lockdown which lapsed today (Friday May 15).
