The anti-racism protest over the killings of George Floyd and Momodou Lamin Sisay in the United States has been “temporarily” banned by police. 

Organisers had planned to hold the protest in front of the U.S. Embassy on Monday to demand justice for George Floyd and Momodou Lamin Sisay, two victims of U.S police brutality. 

But the Gambia police on Friday refused to issue permit citing the Covid-19 state of emergency and the ban on public gathering as the reason why the protest could not go ahead. 

One of the protest organisers Madi Jobarteh said the the planned Monday protest was postponed until after lockdown.

“We are eagerly waiting for the end or relaxation of the state of emergency regulations so that we can identify a new date for our protest. Nothing is gonna stop it!,” Mr Jobarteh said in a Facebook post.
