A prison commissioner of operations has detailed how he and various security officials were dismissed from their posts on former President Yahya Jammeh’s orders.
Lamin Sowe who entered his second day of testimony on Wednesday, told the TRRC: “Then he said can you get your director and come with him at the NIA headquarters, I said okay. I went to Mile Two and I told the DG anyway I receive a call from the deputy director Louis Gomez that I should go with you to the NIA headquarters to go and answer there.”
He said he was in some sort of panic, “I said no this time I think it is about me because many of my colleagues have called me that they have received their dismissal letters.
“So, this was how we went up to the NIA headquarters, upon arrival there I found all my colleagues there – we were called in the then director’s office Yankuba Badjie and we were served with our dismissal letters: that we were dismissed by executive orders from the office of the president.”
Commissioner of Operations Sowe said he and other security officials from Gambia Fire and Rescue Services, Immigration Department, and Gambia Revenue Authority’s national documents were taken off them as well.
The TRRC hearing continues.
