The United Democratic Party (UDP) has issued an ultimatum to some high ranking members including Sheriffo Sonko, chairman of Brikama Area Council and two other councillors.
According to reports the party is seeking to expel chairman Sheriffo Sonko and two councillors Bilal Faal of Wellingara Nemakunku and Momodou Bojang of Jambur ward, for disloyalty after they allegedly pledged allegiance to President Barrow’s NPP party.
“I can confirm that the trio has been given a reasonable timeline to make a decision which is fair enough. This should be over by the end of June according to the timeline,” a party insider told The Standard.
Sources say the UDP wants to use the Local Government Act to remove Sheriff Sonko and the councillors from their elected positions as they were “secured” under the party’s ticket.
This row is part of a long-standing dispute between the trio and some high ranking members of the UDP party.
Last month Sherifo Sonko and the two councillors were hastily expelled from the party for disloyalty, only for it to be rescinded a week later for failing to adhere to the party’s disciplinary procedures.
Sheriffo Sonko and the councillors have been contacted for comment.
