Gambia Democratic Congress national youth president has claimed that over 2000 supporters of President Adama Barrow has defected to his party.

Momodou MC Cham Jnr, GDC national youth president said: “The GDC leader Hon Mamma Kandeh has yesterday received at Baobab Holiday Resort over 2000 young people from the ‘Barrow for Five Years Camp who switched allegiance to the GDC.

“The GDC party leader welcomed them and praised the young people for their courage.”

“Among the 2000 young people, 400 of them are having voters’ cards and they are all from KMC,” he added.

He said the event brought together GDC top officials including the party’s secretary general Mamma Kandeh.

Last week the Independent Electoral Commission announced the date for the country’s presidential elections next year. 

Even though political rallies have been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, political parties have been jockeying for supporters in an increasingly crowded political field.
