The Gambia’s coronavirus cases have passed 200 as the Ministry of Health on Friday announced that fourteen people tested positive for the virus.

The Ministry’s announcement comes hours after President Adama Barrow lifted the state of public emergency that was put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus.  

Many of the infected people are said to be health workers with the National Public Health Laboratory and one from the Medical Research Council. 

The Health Ministry said in a statement “46 new cases registered – the highest reported in a single day – bringing to 216 the total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country.

“This is an almost 2-fold increase over the number of new cases reported the previous day (41%) of the new cases are health workers mostly from the NPHL – only one of these is a health worker from MRC,” the statement added.
