The head of Police Anti-Crime Unit Gorgui Mboob is facing accusations of torture including the hitting of a suspect on his genital with a hoe.
Ebrima Sanneh claimed on Saturday that Mr Mboob subjected him and several other youths who were arrested to force labour at the Anti Crime Unit farm.
He alleged that an argument ensued with an ACU officer when one of the corn he was picking fell. He said Mr Mboob accosted him and the argument then escalated to assault.
He claimed Gorgi Mboob used a farming tool (hoe) to hit him in his genital forcing him to collapse to the ground screaming.
Ebrima was later taken to hospital for medical care after he started bleeding blood.
Gorgui Mboob and the police have denied that Ebrima Sanneh was tortured.
“The parents of the arrested persons were called and it was during this time when Ebrima Sanneh complain of abdominal pain. He was given police escort together with his family members to the hospital.
“Medical examination was conducted on him and he was said to be without any complications as indicated in an ultrasound scan report,” police said in a press statement.
Gorgui Mboob told Gainako that Ebrima Sanneh fell while he was farming.
He alleged that the young man “must have meet up with a prostitute the previous night and was suffering from Gonorrhoea (a sexually transmitted disease).”
Officer Mboob said “when you fight crime, crime will also fight you back”.
Ebrima Sanneh and 25 other youths were arrested on Friday night at the former Duplex nightclub for “unauthorised” public gathering.
The National Human Rights Commission has launched an investigation into the allegations of torture against Gorgui Mboob and the Anti-Crime Unit.
