Men died of coronavirus at twice the rate of women in The Gambia, according to the Ministry of Health. 

The health data shows that men had a significantly higher rate of death from coronavirus than women and of the 10 deaths recorded recently seven were men.

The grim figures followed a global trend of coronavirus deaths that disproportionately affected men than women. 

The ministry also reported 79 new coronavirus cases adding “a significant number of the new cases are residents of Western Health Region 1.”

The country’s coronavirus cases is now 1,556 with 43 deaths.
