The opposition party, APRC, is demanding transparency from the Barrow-led administration on an alleged oil deal with Senegal.

Rumours have been making rounds that President Barrow’s government has signed an oil deal with his Senegalese counterpart Macky Sall at the town of Sanga Mar on The Gambia – Senegal border.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, APRC’s interim leader Fabakary Tombong Jatta  insisted: “we are aware of the rumours of our offshore oil…the Sanga Mar in Senegal which is at the border with the Gambia, and you know oil is liquid, if you are at the border here and if you suck it you will suck mine.”

The former majority leader of Gambian parliament however said: “the transboundary resources there is a legal framework that allows the two countries to be able to exploit those resources for their mutual benefits.”

“But we are not informed, we don’t know the government’s position. Are these allegations true? They are so quiet on these things and the evidence is coming out one-by-one,” he added.
