Gambian authorities are to deport a Swedish-Gambian fugitive Jamal Emilie Jobe to Sweden after he was arrested on an Interpol arrest warrant.

The 29-year-old Swede is wanted in Sweden for murder, attempted murder and money laundering.

Mr Jobe, who is currently detained at Banjul police headquarters, is reportedly fighting against his deportation. His lawyers have filed an injunction at the High Court in Banjul to stop the deportation proceedings against him.

Jamal Jobe claimed to be a businessman and philanthropist. He owned a brick company in The Gambia and was reported to have built a mosque for the residents of Brufut.

Mr Jobe was said to have entered The Gambia in May this year and was residing in Brufut with his Gambian fiancée Mariama Bojang. She told the Freedom Newspaper that her boyfriend has been living in The Gambia since January 2019.

“He shouldn’t be deported without the outcome of that case filed before the high court. As we speak, they are planning to deport him to Sweden tonight. The rule of law should be respected,” Ms Bojang told Freedom Newspaper.

Sources in Sweden told Gambiana that Jamal Jobe and his brothers Eddie Jobe and Elias Jobe have been implicated in several criminal cases involving two gangs, the Spring Weather League and the Wellness Network, fighting for control of the lucrative drug trade in Hisingen, Gothenburg, Sweden.

Eddie Jobe was implicated in the death of Mohamed Sarhan on Blidvädersgatan near Vårväderstorget in Biskopsgården during Christmas Day 2016.

Swedish police said the man in his 20s was shot in the back and died later in hospital from his injuries. They said the murder is most likely related to previous murders in the district and the conflict that exists between two criminal groups, the Spring Weather League and the Wellness Network.
