Fatoumatta Sandeng, daughter of the slain politician Solo Sandeng, has warned former Gambian president Yahya Jammeh that he will be held to account for the death of her father. 

Ms Sandeng, 26, was testifying before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) from her base in Germany. 

She said her family will not relent in their quest to bring Jammeh to justice.

“Just to say in the hole that you [Yahya Jammeh] are hiding in, we will fish you out like we fished out that rat,” she said,

She said her organisation the Sandeng Foundation would need more political will and victims’ unity to fast track the bringing of Jammeh to justice.

“I know that it is going to be hard knowing that the rejection of this draft constitution [but] and it will be hard under this constitution [1997] to do our jobs. But we will make it.

“We vowed to bring him and his associates to justice for the crimes they meted on to innocent people.”

Former president Yahya Jammeh is now exiled in Equatorial Guinea after losing the presidential election to an opposition coalition led by Adama Barrow. 

His brutal 22 year rule was marred by gross human rights violations including arbitrary arrests, torture, forced disappearance and extrajudicial killings. 

Solo Sandeng was one of the last prominent opposition supporters to have died in custody during the Jammeh dictatorship.
