Brikama Area Council’s chairman Sheriff Sonko has launched a fresh attack on the opposition United Democratic Party days after the Supreme Court in a landmark ruling sided with him.
The party was seeking to oust him as the chairman of BAC after he pledged allegiance to President Adama Barrow.
Mr Sonko, who has regained his mojo since the Supreme Court delivered its verdict last week, said people are deserting his former party in large numbers.
“Before December 2021, few selfish people are going to remain in that political party because people are saying bye-bye to that political party,” Mr Sonko said.
“[President]Adama [Barrow] people are appreciating [him] more, and UDP is depreciating by the minutes and by the seconds,” he added.
The United Democratic Party is yet to respond to Sonko’s latest attack. However, the party said it accepted the Supreme Court verdict as “a good sign” that the Gambian judiciary was functioning well.
