The Gambia’s national football team, The Scorpions, received a heroes welcome upon their arrival in Banjul after qualifying for the first time for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The team played their last match yesterday against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Kinshasa. They lost the match by a goal to nil but it had no bearing on The Scorpions historic achievement.

They are second in Group D behind Gabon and sealed their place in the continental tournament with an emphatic victory against Negras of Angola last week, sparking countrywide celebrations.

The Gambia delegation to

DR Congo also includes President of the Gambia Football Federation, Lamin Kaba Bajo and Minister of Youth & Sports, Bakary Y Badjie.
