APRC has distanced itself from a member of the party who claimed that ex-president Yahya Jammeh is opposed to coalition talks with other political parties including the NPP.
Pa Modou Mbowe, a staunch supporter of the APRC, had claimed that the former president, the de facto leader of the party, made his position clear during a telephone conversation.
”The conversation with Babili Mansa took place in front of Amie Jatta who followed every word as the phone was on loud speaker and Jammeh also used the occasion to praise all party supporters,” Mbowe said.
“He [Jammeh] made it clear that APRC would not form alliance with any party.”
Mbowe claimed the conversation took place two weeks ago whole he was in Central River Region to settle a dispute between party supporters.
However the APRC had dismissed Mbowe’s claims as “false”.
First deputy leader Ousman Rambo Jatta in a statement said Jammeh is not opposed to an alliance with any political party.
“All we can confirm to the Gambians at this moment is that the former president is in support of the executive and our political efforts to help the party move forward and restore his legacy as a great former president who deserves the respect due to him,” Jatta said.
