President Adama Barrow says his government is committed to developing rural Gambia which had been neglected for the past 50 years by previous administrations.

Speaking at Niamina Dankunku and Dongoroba in Jarra East, President Barrow highlighted his administration’s achievements including building roads and other infrastructure around the country.

“For over 50 years Gambians have been paying taxes yet most of the countryside remains undeveloped,” he said.

He added that his critics will tell the people that the infrastructure he is championing is from their tax revenues.

“Were people not paying taxes before?,” he asked.

The president said that as a public servant he will continue to do his work without distraction.

He called for unity among Gambians in order to develop the country, saying that the country can only be developed “when we have peace and unity among the people.

“Only unity will serve our common good. Let’s come together and move this country forward.”

Meanwhile the president had laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the School for Community Health Nursing in Mansakonko. 

The expansion will increase the number of student intakes as well as dormitories.

Mr Barrow said he will continue to serve the people’s interests noting that the Kiang electrification and roads projects are part of his government’s programmes not to leave no community behind in terms of infrastructural development.
