Halifa Sallah

Halifa Sallah, leader of People’s Democratic Organization Independent and Socialism PDOIS, has told Gambians about the importance of their voter cards.

Speaking to PDOIS supporters in Sami Karantaba Wolof, Mr Sallah offered Gambians the option “to choose to be independent and develop or remain in abject poverty”.

The National Assembly member for Serrekunda and presidential candidate is on a whistle-stop nationwide campaign ahead of the December presidential election.

Mr Sallah linked the Gambia’s poor state of development to its poor leadership in the 56 years of nationhood.

“If you don’t know who you are, you will not know what you own and if you don’t know what you own someone will own it for you and that person will be in heaven on this earth and you will be in hell on this earth,” he said.

“You should know that you won The Gambia, the powers belong to you. You are the people who vote in and vote out [your leaders].

“Then what you should be mindful of is your voter card is a key and the voter card is a door.

“Now the two houses are here: the house of slavery and ignorance and the house of independent and peace and development.”

He added: “And you now, you have the key for the door and is left to you to open the house door for slavery or the house door for independent and development.”
