The Idependent Electoral Commission has approved the nominations of only six presidential candidates and rejected 15 other nominees for not able to fulfil section 47 (1) a of the Election Act.

The qualified candidates include the incumbent Adama Barrow who registered under the ticket of National People’s Party, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe for United Democratic Party, Halifa Babacarr Sallah for People Democratic Organisation and Independent for Socialism, Mama Kandeh for Gambia Democratic Congress and Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh for National Unity Party.

However, the disquqlified presidential aspirants include Ahmed Mai Fatty for Gambia Moral Congress, Dr Ismaila Ceesay for Citizens’ Alliance, Yusupha Dumbuya for Democratic Party, Alieu Sowe of Gambia Action Party, Shiekh Tijan Hydara of Gambia Alliance for National Unity.

Meanwhile, rejected Independent presidential aspirants also included Marie Sock, Bankole Ahadzie, Ebrima Tabora Manneh, Momodou Bah, Mamadi KS Camara, Shiekh Matarr Nyang, and Papa Faal.
