Gambia Democratic Congress youth leader Momodou MC Cham Jnr has lashed out at opposition politicians that  defected to President Barrow’s party.

He said they are “selfish people” who are only out for their personal gains.

At least eight opposition politicians who got their nominations rejected by the country’s electoral body have now endorsed Barrow for re-election in the December polls.

MC Cham Jnr told Gambiana: “The independent candidates who went and endorsed Barrow have shown Gambians that they are looking for employment.

“They don’t have no interest to develop the country because they are the people who stood here castigating President Barrow and his government, calling them incompetence and corrupt.

“And today they changed their tunes and joined Barrow. So, they are just for their selfish interest and not the interest of the country.”

He added: “I want to let people know that the GDC-APRC No-to-Alliance (APRC breakaway faction) is the biggest alliance in the country for now and people should know that every aspirant went to the nominations to be approved and if those rejected aspirants were approved, they wouldn’t join any party.

“But right now, they don’t meet the requirements because some of them couldn’t even get the 200 voters’ requirement in each of the regions.”
