Ahmed Gitteh, one of President Adama Barrow’s staunch supporters, has claimed that the opposition party lost the presidential election due to their attitudes towards voters.
Mr Gitteh also said more than hundred prominent supporters of the United Democratic Party covertly pledged to vote for President-elect Barrow a day before the election.
“I have been active in politics since 2017 because the party I wanted to rule in this 2021 was the party I was campaigning for.
“But along the way, you have many people supporting United Democratic Party and Gambia Democratic Congress and those supporting Halifa Salla and his party, but UDP’s approach towards this election scared many people in this country and there are many reasons for their failure to win the election but there is one reason which is their attitude toward people during the registration period because they are on record on the social media.
And people saw that and realized and denied them votes,” Gitteh said.
“Because we know many people are supporting Halifa Sallah decided not to vote for him in this election to vote for Barrow because of UDP and there are many people who are supporting Mama Kandeh also decided not to vote for him in this election and voted for Barrow because of UDP and people [were scared of a UDP government]. They used to come and tell us that,” he added.
