The Supreme Court in Banjul today ordered Barrow’s National People’s Party to pay a compensation cost of D10,000 to Lawyer Ousainou Darboe’s United Democratic Party for wasting time in hearing a petition against the election results.
Opposition United Democratic Party is seeking the Court to overturn Barrow’s election victory citing election fraud including bribing voters with cooking utensils and insertion of non-Gambians to vote on 4 December presidential election.
But Barrow’s lawyers had filed two motions seeking the nation’s highest court to strike out the opposition petition on constitutional ground.
And today Barrow’s team of lawyers led by Sheriff Mary Tambadou filed a second motion having eight days to consolidate their first motion which he sought to withdraw.
But United Democratic Party’s lead lawyers Bory Touray argued that it cannot happen, adding they agreed during their Monday meeting that first motion will be heard today and second to be heard on Friday.
