Top general of former president Yahya Jammeh and two other military officers have been detained at the state central prisons, Mile Two in Banjul.
Lt general Saul Badjie, major Landing Tamba and warrant officer 1 Musa Badjie and six other military personnel and some civilians returned to The Gambia last December after spending five years in exile with former president Yahya Jammeh in Equatorial Guinea.
Lt general Saul Badjie has been adversely incriminated in the TRRC findings for committing gross human rights violations including killings and torture.
Government spokesman Ebrima G Sankareh said: “It’s true at the closure of business last night general Badjie was ordered to be detained at Mile Two prisons by a high court judge.
“In fact, let me give you the names of people who are detained at Mile Two prisons. Yes, just the surface information is that Lt General Saul Badjie, Major Landing Tamba and warrant officer 1 Musa Badjie were ordered to be detained at the Mile Two prisons and they were processed at the Mile Two prions, they were read their rights as prisoners and each was sent to a cell. They are at the remand wing.
“The other six military personnel are Lt colonel Wandifa Barrow, Lt colonel Amadou Joof, Lt Kaddy Colley, Ssgt Lamin B Jammeh, Sgt Lamin Nyassi and Sgt Landing Jarju were also taken to the police headquarters in Banjul to be processed and put on bail.”
“They are all released from police today and they are to report back this morning at 11 at the Crime Management Coordination office for further engagement,” he added.
