President Adama Barrow has congratulated the national football team, The Scorpions, for their African Cup of Nations win against Mauritania.
“Congratulations to the #Scorpions for their outstanding performance against Mauritania in the match. Winning their first game in the first #AFCON2021 appearance is a great feat,” President Barrow said in a message.
Gambia, who played their debut game at the continental tournament yesterday, made a huge impression with their stellar performance.
Scorpions forward Ablie Jallow who became the first Gambian to score in the Afcon struck a superb goal in the first-half.
The Gambia are joined at the top of Group F with Mali who won a controversial match against Tunisia. The Gambia will face Mali on Sunday in Limbe.
