President Adama Barrow in his inaugural address today described his re-election in December as a vote of confidence as thousands of Gambians and foreign leaders attend the swearing-in ceremony at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

Barrow highlighted his administration’s developments as he promised to be a president for all Gambians. He pledged to uplift the lives of citizens in his second term in office. 

“Today, we can comfortably conclude that my re-election for another five years is a vote of confidence in my government. A vote of acknowledgment of my achievements. A vote of acknowledgement of the path we have undertaken to follow and a vote of acceptance of the democratic principles and values,” the newly sworn-in president Barrow said.

The president also promised to ensure his administration attain universal electricity coverage for the whole country.

“With the Soma substation and other energy generation points, we have the potential to attain universal access to electricity in the country during the next five years. This is our target and nothing less with regard to social service delivery,” he said.

President Barrow also promised to increase the pay of civil servants and public sector workers.
