APRC has called on President Adama Barrow to urgently review the agreement that led to Senegalese troops being stationed in Foni.

The party’s call comes after Senegalese soldiers serving with Ecomig contingent clashed with the Casamance MFDC rebels on The Gambia’s southern border.

Two Senegalese soldiers were killed and nine missing, and scores of villagers fled their homes.

APRC spokesman Dodou Jah said the party called on President Barrow to treat the Foni incident with urgency and  to restore peace and tranquility in the region.

“The president should review the agreement that led to the Senegalese troops stationed in Foni and the Gambia Government,” he said, adding that APRC through their Foni Kansala lawmaker Musa Amul Nyassi learnt that some villagers fled for safety after being terrified by sporadic exchange of bullets by both forces.

“The Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) under the leadership of the Right Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta together with his National Executive Committee wishes to extend their deepest sympathy to the people of Foni,” he added.

According to him, the satellite villages during the recent exchange of gunfire between the troops stationed in Foni, and the MFDC separatist rebels in Casamance when Senegalese forces pursued a vehicle believed to be carrying logs crossed their border into the southern Region of Senegal seeking for sanctuary.

“On the same vein we are extending our heartfelt condolences to the families of the soldiers and any loss of lives caused by the unfortunate incident. 

“We wish speedy recoveries to those injured and we pray for the departed souls to attain eternal peace and be granted Jannah,” he said.

He assured “the people of Foni and Gambians at large that the APRC will continue its unflinching support at all times.”
