The Gambia’s national football team captain Pa Modou Jagne has announced his retirement from international football after a career spanning 17 years.

Nda as he is fondly called captained the Scorpions at their historic Afcon debut and  received heap of praises for his discipline and commitment to national duty.

He now hands over the captain armband to the no-nonsense defender Omar Colley as the Scorpions begin their next Afcon journey next month.

“I am now retiring from national team duties as your captain,” an emotional Pa Modou Jagne told reporters and footbal officials at a news conference at the FIFa Goal Project in Yundum

He however assured his continued support towards the country’s sporting development.

Jagne began his national duty by playing in The Gambia’s U-20 and won trophy for the country at that championship held in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Bakary Badjie commended the retiring football legend as someone who loves his country and very discipline.

Badjie described him as a consistent and hardworking sportsman.
