Halifa Sallah today received heaps of praise as he attended his last parliamentary session in Banjul.
Gambians from all walks of life have praised the veteran politician and leader of the PDOIS for his “exemplary service” to the country.
Alpha Robinson, former director of the National Water and Electricity Company, said: “Our country is thankful and grateful! Words cannot express my personal gratitude. There will never be another Halifa Sallah, but I hope a new generation of genuine leaders will take his place at the Assembly, to build on the foundation he will leave behind.”
“Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend, as I’m not in the country right now. I urge anyone who reads this post to attend. I will be with you in spirit!” he added.
Kemeseng Sanneh of PDOIS said: “Thank you for your service to the nation.”
Kutubo Sanneh also said: “Thank you Papa. Please don’t leave us now, be somewhere around and help occasionally.”
Lamin Joof added: “Thank you, Honourable Halifa Sallah for your valuable service to the nation. We still need your contributions in any way you can. Thank you once again.
Alieu Momodou Gaye said: “Our National Assembly will never be the same again without Hon. Sallah. I wish him a very happy retirement with a long life in good health. Thanks for your service to humanity Sallah Ngarri.”
The veteran politician last year announced his retirement from frontline politics after three decades.
“This is my last attempt I am going to leave you here. At the age of sixteen and a half, I committed myself that I’ll fight to eradicate poverty not only for my people but the whole of the African continent,” he told supporters last year.
Sallah is one of the most respected Gambian politicians and won the hearts of the nation for his reassuring speeches during the 2016 political impasse.
He is already being celebrated as a living legend for his selfless service to the country.
