Shooting has been reported in Bwiam today amid fresh clashes between Senegalese soldiers and Casamance separatist rebels.

A contingent of Senegalese soldiers serving with the Ecomig forces are stationed in the town of Bwiam. 

A source told Gambiana that terrified villagers ran to rescue their children from schools and the market was deserted when the shooting began. 

“Shooting has started inside Bwiam and the Senegalese soldiers are shooting randomly and people are running to get  their children from the schools. As I am speaking to you now, there is shooting in Foni,” the source said

“The Senegalese who are stationed at Bwiam opened fire and they are advancing towards Bujiga and we are afraid an attack could happen and people are terrified.”

Gambiana couldn’t reach officials for verification, but we will keep you updated.
