The Banjul Coroner released the autopsy report for Ambassador Dawda Fadera, identifying the cause of death as infection following surgery.

Dawda Fadera was the Gambia’s ambassador to the US who passed away in February this year while on a short trip to Banjul.

His death at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital after undergoing surgery was treated as suspicious.

Allegations of poisoning were made and the Gambian authorities launched an investigation.

Principal Magistrate Sidi K. Jobarteh was appointed as coroner to lead the investigation.

The coroner submitted her report on 1 April to the Ministry of Justice after a month-long investigation.

According to the report, the coroner examined 10 witnesses including the pathologist and staff of the hospital, an independent medical expert as well as family members of the deceased.

She also visited the hospital and reviewed relevant documents such as the post mortem report and the hospital file of the deceased.

The report says it found no evidence of poisoning or other unlawful conduct causing the death.

Her verdict is that the deceased died as a result of an infection following surgery performed on him at the hospital.
