President Adama Barrow has finally made public the appointments of Fabakary Tombong Jatta as speaker of parliament and Seedy S.K. Njie as deputy speaker.

State House Wednesday evening said: “The Office of the President informs the public that in accordance with the power vested in him, His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of the Gambia has nominated the following as members of the National Assembly of the Republic of The Gambia with effect from Tuesday, 12th April 2022.  

“Fabakary Tombong Jatta, Seedy S.K. Njie, Maimuna Ceesay, Kebba Lang Fofana and Fatou K. Jawara.”

The duo appointments have sparked public outrage. 

Tombong Jatta and Seedy Njie were former allies of ex-President Yahya Jammeh accused of attempting to thwart the will of the Gambian people in 2017 by supporting Jammeh to entrench himself in power.
