The Gambia Government through its minister of youths and sports has asked support from China to help improve sports infrastructure and coaching in the country.
Bakary Badjie today (13 April) told reporters at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China after holding a close-door meeting with Ambassador Ma Jianchun.
“We want to thank our ambassador His Excellency Ma and the Chinese embassy and the People of Republic of China for being benevolent enough to provide support for us.
“We had a bilateral meeting before the presentation and it was all geared towards looking at areas that China can support The Gambia in terms of the improvement of our sports in the infrastructure but also in training coaches and athletes and they have generously accepted those requests.
“It’s a way of empowering our young people towards ensuring that sport is not just limited to the very common ones but reached out to others which are probably not common in the African cultures,” he added.
However, shortly after the Embassy presented materials to the Gambia Kunfu Federation as part of its support to improving sports in the country.
Ambassador Ma Jianchun described the Chinese martial art dubbed Kunfu as not only a means of self-protection, but also it can help people to strengthen their physical health.
