Yankuba Colley, former mayor of Kanifing Municipality, has said the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) will sweep the upcoming local council polls scheduled for next year.
“But you will see that in this coming local government election. I said that this seat is Barrow, I mean it. KMC will be Barrow and KMC is going to be Barrow. I will tell you this. We will win three-quarters of this local council election,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said they are still committed to bringing former President Yahya Jammeh from exile.
“Just as Tombong says Africans should look back about the conditions of their leaders if they are no longer in power, because even in the West you have their former presidents who made mistakes but they end up addressing their issues amicably.
“And we should honour our ex-presidents. Yes, we want to see Jammeh back home because this is his country and he has rights like every other Gambian. Jawara was out and returned until his demise, just like Jammeh,” he added.
He continued: “We didn’t lose, if you can observe people used to say APRC is only Foni, but if you look into where APRC won this election in the two regions it is bigger than the whole Foni.
“So, that shows that APRC is a national party, and not just only Foni party. APRC is everywhere.
“And if we had the chance to put up a candidate in some parts of Foni, we would have won those seats, we know that very well, but in politics you have your shortcomings which happened to us in this past national assembly elections.”
